Fishguard Ferry Port

We sadly left Cardigan and made for Fishguard. We were early but wanted to get to the ferry port to check on the sailing. Since the previous days sailing of the fastferry had been canceled we wanted to see about this days as it was the fastferry again.

It's a good thing we did this too because the ferry had been canceled last minute! The superferry that was due to sail at 230pm had been delayed by an hour so that anyone for the fastferry could board if they wanted to take this slower journey. That's what we did, rather than stay over another night, which really wouldn't have been a hardship, to be honest

This is the last photo we took in Wales. It's of the Pembrokeshire Coastline from the ferry port as we drove in to check in for our departing sailing.

What I really should have done was take pictures, too, of the ferry ride. The sailing for the superferry, as I noted earlier, was supposed to be 3 and a half hours. However, due to high winds the sailing was more like 4 and a half, and I'd say that about 80% of the passengers were seasick! It should have been renamed a hospital ship rather than the superferry. It was almost funny to watch the busloads of American tourists loading up on Irish Stew and other big meals, only to lose them a couple hours later. Almost!

We actually ended up meeting up with a couple friends from the Mini club we're members of here in Ireland. They were on their way back from Mini In The Park, an annual weekend event. We didn't know about it, but we wouldn't have gone anyway. Our interest in the club is waning, to say the least. But we had a great chat, which helped to pass the time and to keep our minds off the ferry going up...and down...and up...and down...and up...and down...and...you get the picture.

We finally landed in Rosslare Harbour around 8pm and had to take the main road to Waterford as the Passage East/Ballyhack ferry was done for the day by then. We stopped in Waterford for dinner since we hadn't really eaten anything since breakfast, then drove straight home from there, getting in about midnight. Loooong day.

It was sad to be going home. Peter and I really, REALLY, had a fabulous time in Wales. The whole 5 and a half days will always hold special memories for us. We can't wait to return. Hopefully in April for the Independence Day celebrations!
